THE KATOWICE CITY SINGERS’ ENSEMBLE ‘CAMERATA SILESIA’
Founded in 1990, the ensemble has since been directed by Anna Szostak. It has won acclaim with its interpretations of contemporary classical and early music, including numerous premieres. The ensemble has given performances at London’s Royal Festival Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Brussels Palais de Beaux-Arts and Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Opéra Comique in Paris, Mei Lanfang in Beijing, as well as festivals: the Warsaw Autumn, Wratislavia Cantans, Chopin and His Europe, the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, Misteria Paschalia, the Festival of Premieres – Polish Modern Music in Katowice, the Bregenzer Festspiele, ISCM World Music Days in Vienna and Wrocław, Anima Mundi in Piza, the Velvet Curtain in Lviv, Sounds New in Canterbury, and World Expo 2000 in Hanover.
Of the Camerata’s several dozen albums released so far, many have won the Fryderyk Awards: Karol Szymanowski’s Kurpie Songs (1997), Camerata Silesia Sings Silesian Composers (2020), Through the Tears (2021), Words of Mystery. Music for Choir and Cello (2022), and Górecki: Folk Songs (2023). It was granted patronage by the City of Katowice in 2004, and also began permanent cooperation with NOSPR, in which it carries out its own concert series. Since 2024, The Katowice City Singers’ Ensemble ‘Camerata Silesia’ has been a Cultural Institution of the City of Katowice has operated under the aegis of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as the orchestra’s co-organiser.
