Authors
Writer, translator, and lecturer, born in 1972 in Kraków. He graduated in Polish philology from the Jagiellonian University, later obtaining his doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in the humanities. He is now a professor at the Faculty of Polish Studies in his alma mater, where he teaches literary theory, rhetoric, and creative writing.
Rusinek writes features for the press, poems, radio and TV scripts, song lyrics and libretti. He has also authored academic and popular science books on rhetoric and linguistics. His best-known (Polish-language) publications include Limericks and Other Variations, Pips on the Tongue, Everyday Rhetoric (with Aneta Załazińska), and Wisława Szymborska: Nothing of the Ordinary. Rusinek’s writ[1]ings deal with the condition of contemporary Polish language and various related phenomena, problems and aspects of the Polish tongue and literature.
Rusinek is also a translator of books for children (A.A. Milne, J.M. Barrie, and others) and adult audiences (e.g. Edward Gorey).
Once a secretary to Wisława Szymborska, he is the head of a foundation of her name and author of (humorous) names for literary genres practised by that poet, such as lepiej (betterthans), odwódka (boozecautions) and moskalik (verse mini-pickles).
In 2019–2022 Rusinek was a member of the Polish Language Council (7th term). He presents weekly features on Radio Nowy Świat.
