Piotr Sałajczyk
A pianist and chamber musician, critically acclaimed as one of Poland’s most outstanding musicians of his generation. He graduated from Józef Stompel’s class at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he now teaches piano. He also studied with Pavel Gililov at Salzburg’s Universität Mozarteum.
He performs both most recent works and forgotten pieces by Polish composers. He is a co-founder of the Wajnberg Trio. In 2017 released his 4CD album of J. Zarębski’s complete piano works. A year later he embarked on the project of recording all of piano music by W. Żeleński. The pianist pursues a particularly keen interest in the oeuvre of Karol Szymanowski.
In 2018 he became the vice-president of the Karol Szymanowski Music Society in Zakopane.
Sałajczyk has premiered many contemporary music works. He is a member of the Hashtag Ensemble. He has appeared at major festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, The Silesian String Quartet and Its Guests, the Festival of Premieres ‘Polish Modern Music’ in Katowice, the Beijing Modern Music Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival, Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, Musique et Neige, and the Usedomer Musikfestival.
He has received numerous record awards, including the 2018 Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Academy for Weinberg’s Piano Quintet, with the Silesian String Quartet). His recordings have been released under such labels as DUX, CD Accord, Hänssler, CPO, and Naxos, as well as Polish Radio PWM Edition, the Belgian radio broadcaster Musiq3, Deutschlandradio, and hr2.
